Design and Technology for the Network
We design systems and tools for the network, and the network is made up of people, just like you.
We produce websites, online advertising, digital marketing campaigns, and content management tools-often all for a single client. We seek to achieve simple, beautiful, and systematic design in every aspect of our work, from concept to screen to code.
Real Estate/Architecture
We are a leader in digital marketing for real estate. Our clients are among the most prominent Developers, Real Estate Marketers, Brokers, and Realtors in the United States.
Stribling Marketing Associates has worked with the Basik Group team for over three years on many successful projects. They are a valuable partner and a key team member.
Elizabeth Stribling, President
Stribling & Associates
Basik Group has a truly unique combination of design and technology expertise. It is very hard to find this blend and it is evident by how easy their technology solutions are to use. I know I'm in good hands with Basik.

Fashion/Beauty
Our team has worked with some of the most prominent e-tailers in the world. We have a fundamental understanding of how to best portray luxury, fashion and beauty online.
Basik Group has had an ongoing relationship with Victoria's Secret since 2003. We work on numerous projects for Victorias- Secret.com. Naturally, these initiatives maintain the company's dis- tinctive look and experience. In addition to integrating with its retail stores and catalog, these special projects are specifically tailored to drive promotions, increase sales and cross-sell inventory.
In 2006, we also began a long-term relationship with Bath & Body Works on a number of projects for BathandBodyWorks.com. Bath & Body Works is a master at the "art of selling" and a major e-commerce player. Projects to date include promotional mini-sites, email marketing campaigns, banner ad campaigns and intensive studies of their overall site design and performance.
In addition, we regularly work on a number of other e-commerce initiatives.
Art/Culture
We have over ten years of experience designing and developing award-winning websites for art museums, galleries and other art organizations.
The sites incorporate the gallery experience, without resorting to tiresome tricks. Taking their cue from contemporary gallery architecture, they utilize restraint mixed with attention to detail and careful planning.
Our Content Repository allows our gallery clients to update and manage their sites-without the need for a technical staff. Images are auto-cropped and sized according to pre-defined design specifications.
Company
The name Basik is derived from the first letters of our partners last names: Ba+Si+K (and it is pronounced just like "basic").
This seemed natural when we started and there was just three of us. Plus, we liked the modesty and the reductive quality the name implied. As we've grown, we added the "Group" to acknowledge the contributions of our many other talented team members.
Michael Barborak approaches software development as a design challenge; he finds patterns in the problems at hand and implements simple, elegant and powerful solutions based on them. For him, the beauty of a project does not stop at the screen. Barborak has built his reputation as an exceptionally effective technologist and software developer.
In a career including positions as software engineer, system architect, systems integrator, consultant and project manager, he has gained a unique understanding of solving business problems with technology. Barborak brings a structure and precision to his projects that maintain a clear focus on the customer's primary business imperatives.
Barborak approaches technology from first principles; he has a comprehensive knowledge of computer systems, networking and programming concepts. He is an expert in numerous programming languages, environments and software. His experience includes development with a wide range of technologies supporting networked and web-enabled applications, including Java, J2EE, XML, XSL, RSS, SOAP, Web Services, JavaScript and DHTML, Flash and Flash ActionScript, OO Perl, SQL and ColdFusion. Barborak received his BSEE and MSEE from the University of Texas in Austin but heard New York City's siren song before finishing his PhD work. On the weekends you can find him reading literary fiction between games of pickup basketball and roller hockey.
Trained as an artist and graphic designer, Hal Siegel's professional work has spanned the gamut from boutique graphic design to the development of large-scale interactive systems and applications. This experience led him to his approach of balancing the issues of aesthetics with those of user-centered design. Largely perceived as an either/or proposition, Siegel instead sees it as a continuous spectrum and works with Basik Group's clients to determine the appropriate solution for each project.
From the onset, Siegel was less interested in a linear career path than he was in exploring new ideas of form and function. While still in school, Siegel interned at M&Co., the legendary firm of design impresario Tibor Kalman. He also apprenticed with many other respected designers, including Mike Mills and Barbara Glauber. His curiosity with digital media led him to IBM, where he was lead designer on numerous projects, including the company's first interactive annual report, one of its first e-commerce ventures, and an experimental interactive project with the composer Philip Glass. In addtion, he was an Art Director with OVEN Digital and a design consultant with Sothebys.com. Siegel received his BFA from The Cooper Union.
Michael Knowlton's career has been interlaced with an unusual blending of business, marketing, technology and design. For BASIK's clients he fills the roll of catalyst, translator and facilitator: Knowlton's experience allows him to introduce real-world market insights into the sometimes lofty practices of communications and programming. He is an expert at bridging the gaps that often exist between traditional business divisions--a universal translator of sorts. Knowlton is a pragmatic leader who believes in the power and advantages of small, enabled teams.
Knowlton's professional experience reflects his multi-disciplinary approach and his wide-ranging skill set. He was Marketing Manager at Donghia Furniture & Textiles, Head of Technology & Client Services at the interactive agency OVEN Digital, Business Developer at Multimedia Solutions, Inc. and founded and lead a user-interface design firm. Knowlton received a Bachelor of Arts from Miami University of Ohio and also pursued an MBA from Pace University prior to founding Basik Group. He is an avid musician and fly-fisherman.
